we are paying him for past performance and being a good guy who saved shanny lynch. they will reward him as he rewarded them. i think shanny has a problem also where he thinks he can make it work with anyone. so most teams will say wow his arm is limited but kyle will say, challenge accepted.

I've never seen a definition of what exact stats make aQB elite. It's just a term that gets tossed aroung like amazing or world class.

The concern with not extending Purdy is he has a 2023 caliber season and hates the 49ers for not extending him, then goes somewhere else after the season. At that point he would have leverage as a proven elite QB.

He would cost even more after a season like that, too.

He's the best QB in the NFC West, that's the reality.
Is he perfect, hell no but who's on the market that is a better option? Someone wants to try drafting another QB in the first round?
And he's 25 years old. It's not like he will stop improving.

You can use the franchise tag to control a situation like that, at least to a degree and for a couple of seasons if you want.

Those arfe stats. The true definition of elite is someome who stands out and is unique. Accumulating stats is great but you can do that without being elite.

Example. QBs can have a lot of yards even by throwing short pases. We saw that with JG.and others have done the same. They can throw INTs even when they are right on target and the receiver doesn't handle the pass. They can take sacks because of bad O line play or because they aren't seeing the field well.

My point is stats don't mean a whole lot. Using terms like elite or franchise are fine except they don't really have anty tdefined definition. What one guy calls elite another person might call average. Neither is right or wrong. Just an opinion. The true elites usually have no arguments. Montana. Marino. Mahomes. Brady. These guys were elite and nobody would argue. They won under all types of conditions and with or without great talent.
